The foodstuffs are just two of the unexpected ingredient­s that can be saved for eating at a later date.

Cheddar, garlic and ginger can all be grated from frozen, while eggs can be cracked into an ice cube tray and thawed later.

If you cook too much pasta, freeze that too and simply throw it into hot water when you are ready to eat it.
