Lovesong (from Disintegration, 1989)

“It’s a timeless song. Billie Holiday could have sung Lovesong in her day, yet it’s The Cure’s song. It’s amazing, considering how it’s produced, it could actually be decades older than it is, so it really stands out to me. I love how Robert Smith used his artistic licence to create this otherworldly thing, but underneath he’s made sure he’s written a brilliant song, which I think all pop artists should do. When I heard the Adele cover of that song it made me realise what a great song it truly is. Her’s is a nice interpretation, too.”
