Courtney Marie Andrews Honest Life LOOSE MUSIC, 2016

With its tales of heartbreak, homesickness and travelling alone, the Arizona singer-songwriter’s take on the familiar tale of the road-weary troubadour had a real freshness to its telling. ★★★★

Jay-Z 4:44 ROC NATION, 2017

Humility is a rare thing to find in a multi-platinum artist, but on 4:44, a response to his wife Beyoncé’s Lemonade album released the year before, Jay-Z addressed both his ego and his infidelity. ★★★★

Perfume Genius No Shape MATADOR, 2017

Mike Hadreas has made no mystery about his craving for emotional drama, but No Shape’s charm was its account of feeding that histrionic need within the security of a longterm relationship. ★★★★
