BOY GEORGE AND CULTURE CLUB

LIFE BMG, OUT NOW

Q (UK) - - Awards 2018 -

Their second attempt at their first album of the century.

Reunions weren’t meant to be like this. In 2014, Culture Club’s UK arena tour was abandoned when Boy George fell ill, but more avoidably, so was their 2016 comeback album, Tribes. Now pettily re-branded as Boy George And Culture Club, they take their musical cue from George’s variable solo career, rather than the likes of Church Of The Poison Mind or I’ll Tumble 4 Ya. As a result, while some Tribes songs (Different Man, More Than Silence) remain, Life is peculiarly lifeless. For all the jaunty twang of Resting Bitch Face and Runaway Train, Culture Club in 2018 are as weary and one-paced as their pomp was vivacious and musically mischievous.
