The number of Greenbrier/Astra Rail-built box wagons continues to expand with the arrival of a second batch of bright red Touax wagons and the dispatch of the first Cappagh-branded vehicles from Romania.
JNA fleet expands with Touax and Cappagh.
TOUAX Rail took delivery of its second and final batch of JNA (UIC code Ealnos) box wagons in the third week of March, Nos. 81 70 5500 829-858 GB-TOUAX arriving at Wembley Yard ready to take up duty on the Mendip Rail contract.
The 30 wagons, finished in the same bright red livery with ‘large logo’ Touax branding as the first batch, made their journey to Somerset on March 24, Freightliner’s No. 66511 being tasked with the 6V53 delivery run to Merehead.
They will be shortly joined in the UK by DC Rail/Cappagh’s latest batch of JNAs, Nos. 81 70 5500 704-824, which were reported passing through Gramatneusiedl, near Vienna, on
March 27. In a welcome move the 30 ultramarine blue vehicles, the third and final delivery of the increasingly ubiquitous box wagons, carry large Cappagh branding and ‘Start Safe/Stay Safe’ logos, similar to those applied to the rail operator’s Class 60 No. 60028.
This batch of Ealnos are intended to be partnered with the corporate image Class 60 on the various Wembley recycled ballast flows, with the other boxes for other services. However with the majority of the other leased JNAs being the same shade of blue, if wagons have to be mixed for operational or maintenance reasons, the sets will still have a uniform image.
