■ TICKETING REBRAND:
From
May 13, British Rail’s Intercity Sector introduced newbrand names and colour coding for promotional literature relating to its range of period return tickets.
The previous ‘Standard Return’ (valid for three months) was replaced by the ‘Open Return’, which was valid for one month and could be used on any train, any day. The former ‘White Saver’ tickets became simply ‘Savers’; these were cheaper than Open Returns, with some restrictions on outward trains but no restrictions on return travel. ‘Blue Savers’ became ‘Super Savers’, cheaper again than Savers, but not valid at peak times, or on Fridays or Saturdays in July and August.
