SLW unveils Class 25

Sutton’s Locomotive Workshop’s brand new 4mm scale model of the later, flat-sided Class 25 aims to build on the success of its highly acclaimed Class 24 model.

In a move to ensure modellers have a clear choice of 4mm scale models of the late Class 25 with flat sides, Sutton’s Locomotive Workshop reveals its latest model. The Rails ‘N’ gauge IIA-D biomass wagon reaches the prototype stage, whilst Revolution Trains announces a ‘OO’ gauge Class 93 even though the real thing has yet to be built!

‘RAT' fans were delighted with Sutton's Locomotive Workshop's (SLW) announcement of the Class 25 with the later design of flat-sided body shell, representing part of the Class 25/2 and Class 25/3 subclasses.

The reveal of the new model is slightly earlier than intended by SLW, which has its eye on the forthcoming release of another model with the view that it wanted discerning modellers to have a clear choice.

Livery samples had arrived in time for the announcement, which will see the models enter production in March, with delivery of the first four models anticipated for late summer.

SLW has completed all checks of the tooling, livery and colours of a design it hopes will surpass the high standard first set with the highly acclaimed Class 24 model. It will be equipped with the proven‘ Black Cat' drive, fitted to a heavy cast alloy chassis for haulage power.

Wheel sets a remodelled to the correct pattern and, with wheels in mind, scale modellers are not forgotten with both ‘EM' and ‘P4' gauge wheel sets being made available for the model.

Four models will make up the first release, with liveries spanning the history of the class, from 1966 twotone green as No. D7599, early 1980s ‘banger' blue with full yellow ends and TOPS numbers as No. 25324, early 1991 heritage two-tone green with full yellow ends as No. D7672, and the ever popular No. 25322 Tamworth Castle.

Advanced technical features

The level of detail incorporated in the model is indicated by the number of individual components; more than 350 per locomotive.

It includes engine room and cab illumination, together with illuminated headcode panels. Illumination is also extended to the driver's desk instrument panel for night owls (or rats).

Factory installed digital sound versions are included with a twin speaker system, 16-bit resolution digital sound and clear sound recordings for hi-fidelity playback.

Optional high capacity stay-alive circuits for the sound version will keep the lights and digital sound working reliably.

In addition to the scale wheel option and finely balanced drive with five-pole motor, the model is equipped with close coupling cams and NEM coupling pockets.

This, together with a specified high levelofexteriordetailingwithlocomotivespecific detailing, should have the discerning modeller on the edge of their seats in anticipation.

Analogue models are priced at £185, with the digital sound version retailing at £295. Scale wheels are an additional £20 per set.
