Prototype ‘Stegasaurus’ conversion
AN interesting conversion has been dispatched from DB Cargo’s wagon works at Stoke-on-Trent.
Based on Thrall York-built BYA No. 966050 (which has been on site since last July), the former covered steel coil carrier has seen its characteristic ‘Nissan Hut’ sliding roof removed along with all side brackets and guides.
Its appearance has been transformed by the addition of eight bolted trapezoidal extensions per side – hence the ‘Stegasaurus’ nickname – and internal cradles providing seven coil loading positions.
Externally repainted in DB Traffic red, the wagon remains coded BYA and departed for Arpley and into trial service on March 26.
