Ed Murray locos leave Chasewater Railway
WITH the end of the contract between Ed Murray Ltd and the Chasewater Railway to use the latter’s workshop facilities, the remaining locomotives were gathered together in the yard at Chasewater Heaths station awaiting removal.
The two GECT 6wDE locos Nos. 255 and 267 departed the week commencing March 15 for Beaver metals, where they were quickly cut up for scrap.
The two others are Thomas Hill 4wDH 200v (ex-Hanson Whatley
Quarry No.4) and Rolls Royce Sentinel No. 10220. The Sentinel arrived in
March 2019 for a complete rebuild and while it was stripped down and partially repainted, the rebuild was stopped and the shell has remained under a tarpaulin ever since, but should now be rebuilt.
The future for the Thomas Hill has yet to be decided, with the choices being a full rebuild or stripped for spares and scrapped. It departed Chasewater on March 29 for a new, if uncertain, future.
