Network Rail ‘Syphon' preserved
PREVIOUSLY expected to join the ranks of the dear departed there has been a reprieve for No. 37198, Network Rail's Class 97/3 programme spares donor. Historically significant as the last British main line locomotive to be built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns at the firm's Darlington workshops, as No. D6898 in April 1964, it has been repainted in original British Railways green livery and will shortly take up a career in preservation as an exhibit at the Head of Steam Museum at Darlington North Road.
