Newsdesk: KR Models' Clayton industrial
KR Models is requesting expressions of interest in a ‘OO’ gauge model of the new Clayton Equipment Ltd CBD90 Bo-Bo industrial shunter. IRM to reissue the Tara Mines wagon in ‘OO’ gauge. Cavalex Models reveals livery samples of its special edition MGR wagons.
EXPRESSIONS of interest are being invited by KR Models (www.krmodels. co.uk) for a ‘OO' gauge model of a new British locomotive type, the Clayton CBD90, a 90-tonne Bo-Bo hybrid shunting locomotive built primarily for industrial applications.
The CBD90 is currently being placed in service in the heavy industrial environment at Tata Steel's site in
Port Talbot, where three locomotives are already deployed at the works, painted in an attractive blue and grey livery. Two more are being completed for Tata Steel which will bring the fleet up to five, with a total of seven being required. Fifteen CBD90 locomotives are also on the order books for Beacon Rail destined for the leasing market.
The locomotive uses a small diesel engine to charge traction batteries, reducing exhaust emissions, noise and maintenance costs. The engine is optimised for battery charging whilst regenerative braking through the traction motors further increases the locomotive's efficiency.
The proposed ‘OO' gauge model, announced at the time of the 90th anniversary of Clayton Equipment Ltd
(see page 33), will appeal to modellers of industrial railways and will be perfect for creating industrial and yard scenes in compact spaces. The model is at the early design stage with both a digital sound and DCC on board versions being considered.
A price of £160 for a traditional analogue model is indicated. No delivery date has been released. Expressions of interest can be placed at www.krmodels.co.uk/products/ expression-of-interest?product_id=74
