HST HEART FAILURE

-

IN response to Richard Cresswell's query about HEARTLINE branded HST power cars (September issue) I would suggest the power car with the heart is 43190, not 43198. One pair of power cars (43189 & 43190) had HEART-LINE branding applied for the start of summer 1982 timetable if my memory is right, when full HST services were introduced on the North East to South West route – the Heart-Line referencing the route which ran through the heart of the country, but the name never really took off and I think was soon dropped. I have a feeling that only 43190 carried the heart, with 43189 being just branded with text above the cab window.
