More Ealnos and Ecofret 2s for GBRf

AFTER a break of around 10 months, deliveries of JNA box wagons from Greenbrier-Astra Rail at Drobeta-Turnu Severin in Romania recommenced with the arrival of 18 VTG dark blue vehicles, Nos. 81 70 5500 958-971/973-976, in late July.

They had been expected earlier in the summer but were held up in Germany. Recorded at Dollands Moor on the 20th, they moved north to Wembley on July 29 behind No. 92032 (4Z92) and entered service on GBRf's new HS2 spoil removal contract between Willesden Euroterminal and Barrington, near Foxton in Cambridgeshire, in early August.

GBRf has reached the halfway point of FWA Ecofret 2 construction, with 42 of the triple-unit sets in service out of the planned fleet of 84. Since the last update (see June issue), the following have been collected from builder WH Davis:

April 20 – Nos. 83 70 4520 248-251 and 83 70 4521 060/061

June 30 – Nos. 83 70 4520 270-285 and 83 70 4521 071-078
