Okehampton branch reopens to regular passenger trains
SCHEDULED passenger trains recommenced to Okehampton (Devon) on November 20. The current GWR operated service to/from Exeter (either St Davids or Central) runs two-hourly on weekdays, with an hourly frequency planned in 2022. The line lost its passenger services in 1972, though it remained open for freight and therefore the occasional railtour.
See First Impressions p18.
A special train worked the line on November 17 for the official opening, ahead of scheduled services, carried out by the Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps, Network Rail chairman Sir Peter Hendy and GWR managing director Mark Hopwood. Jack Boskett
