Crowds flock to East Lancs DMU gala

-

THE growing popularity of diesel multiple units was demonstrated at the East Lancashire Railway’s DMU gala, which took place on November 13/14. On both days of the extremely successful event, some trains had to be strengthened owing to the number of passengers travelling. Four resident sets (Classes 104, 105, 110 and

122) were in use, along with visiting ‘Pacer’ No. 144009, which belongs to Greater Manchester Fire Service and is expected to depart shortly for use as a training unit.

■ Another line where DMUs have proved popular is the Llangollen Railway. Since services resumed in July, the line’s fleet has covered 3500 miles, carrying more than 23,000 passengers over 85 days.
