Middleton to celebrate 90 years of the diesel
THE 90th anniversary of the delivery of LMS diesel shunter No. 7051, which emerged from Hunslet Engine Company’s workshops in 1932, is to be celebrated at a special event at the Middleton Railway on September 10/11, 2022. The Leeds-built 0-6-0DM pioneered the basic design for the lower powered diesel shunter. It has been based at Middleton since 1960, and will be the star of the show at the event – several other resident industrial diesels (including Hudswell Clarke D577 Carroll and Hunslet 1786 Courage) should also appear, along with a possible special guest loco which has never hauled a passenger train before.
