ILLUMONATING READ

I READ your report on the new Lumo train interiors (RE307 December issue) with interest .... and some considerable disappointment at what you found. A budget train interior for a budget fare, as opposed to the traditional Mark III or Mark IV interior at a traditional (higher) fare.

I wonder how long it will be before a train operator tumbles to it that offering a superior train interior but at a budget fare might be a winning combination?

Just to clarify, Rail Express did not describe Lumo’s train interior as “budget”; in fact, we praised the seats as being a “revelation” compared to those found in other IETs, though we also raised concerns about the lack of alignment with windows and group seating areas. Ed
