Every little helps for DRS
FOC extends its partnership with Tesco to transport supermarket goods by rail.
DIRECT Rail Services (DRS) has signed a new three-year deal with supermarket giant Tesco to supply and expand rail operations across the UK, building on an established and successful partnership that has developed over the last 10 years.
DRS recently started working Tesco’s first refrigerated rail freight service, using Class 88 locomotives, (see Headline News, February issue) and is now working with the UK’s largest supermarket chain to trial diesel fuel alternatives which eliminate up to 90% of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2e), opening up the 62% of the UK rail network which currently remains unelectrified, to extremely low CO2 rail freight.
DRS will now run the following services:
■ Daventry to Mossend
■ Mossend to Teesport
■ Daventry to Tilbury
■ Tilbury to Coatbridge
■ Daventry to Wentloog
■ Daventry to Teesport via Doncaster
■ Mossend to Inverness
