Had it not been scrapped in 1950, pioneering NER overhead 1.5kV DC electric locomotive No. EE1 would have been celebratin­g its century this year. It has been suggested that the 2-Co-2, built for NER’s planned but never realised partial electrific­ation of the East Coast

Main Line, could be re-created in the manner of steam locos such as Tornado. Nothing similar is currently being considered for three 1960s diesel prototypes (now long scrapped), all of which would have celebrated their 60th this year: BRCW/Sulzer Type 4 Co-Co

No. D0260 Lion, Clayton Type 3 Bo-Bo No. DHP1 and EE Type 4 Co-Co No. DP2.
