ELECTRIC MULTIPLE UNITS
CLASS 323:
Although Hunslet is arguably more synonymous with locomotives, the brand was utilised to build a fleet of second-generation three-car suburban AC electrics that has been split between Birmingham and Manchester. The former will soon be displaced by new CAF units. Phil Richards (CC BY-SA 2.0)
CLASS 360:
Hailing from the Siemens ‘Desiro UK’ family of units, the four-car 360/0s spent much of their life on services out of Liverpool Street, before starting a new life on the electrified London St Pancras to Corby line last year. The future of the 360/2 sub-class, most recently used as five-car units on ‘Heathrow Connect’ services is uncertain, with conversion to logistics use a possibility. Matt Buck (CC BY-SA 2.0)
CLASS 374:
Already a decade old, the Siemens tri-voltage units represent a change in traction technology, moving away from power cars and trailers to distributed traction. Built to operate services between London, Paris and Brussels and Amsterdam, much of their work has been severely curtailed by the pandemic. Hugh Llewelyn (CC BY-SA 2.0)
