Final Class 484 touches down at Sandown

-

ON February 16 the fifth and final Class 484 EMU No. 484005 arrived on the Isle of Wight, crossing the Solent on a low-loader before being delivered to Sandown depot. The two-car Vivarail-built unit, converted from former LT ‘D’ stock, will undergo tests locally before entering service.

The final Class 483 to move to the mainland (No. 483008 – see story on p8) left the island the following day. The Class 484 is the last part of the £26 million Island Line upgrade, which took place in 2021. The line reopened on November 1 after a much longer closure than originally anticipated.
