Final Piccadilly Line mock-up unwrapped

-

LONDON Mayor Sadiq Khan visited the Siemens Mobility factory in Goole, East Yorkshire, on March 21, to view the final mock-up of the new trains due to enter service on the Piccadilly Line from 2025 onwards.

A total of 94 tube trainsets, branded by Siemens as London Inspiro, will be built, half of which will be constructed at the Goole facility. They will replace the 73 Tube Stock currently running between West London, Heathrow and North London.

The mayor used the visit to crank up pressure on the Government in a long-running debate about longterm capital funding of TfL from the public purse. It has been suggested future contracts are at risk by lack of clarity on this issue, including time limited options built into the contract with Siemens Mobility to build new Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo &

City line trains. It is already being

suggested that entry to service of new trains on these lines could be pushed back to the late 2030s/ early 2040s.
