THERE may be disappointment for those looking forward to the longawaited return to main line action of Class 55 No. D9000 Royal Scots Grey.

There are reports that some slippage is taking place as regards having the Locomotive Servicesowned Deltic back in action. One of its power units is under repair at a Lancashire engineering company and this is taking slightly longer than anticipated.

Once the locomotive has been fitted with both of its Napier power units, testing will have to take place. It is to be hoped that its welcome return can take place as scheduled. LS has three advertised workings for this popular Class 55, these being: August 26 ‘The Deltic Delight’:

Wolverhampton, stations to Warrington-Newcastle. October 12 ‘The Severn Valley Deltic’: Newcastle, stations to Chesterfield-Bridgnorth (SVR). October 29 ‘The Deltic Deviation’: Finsbury Park, stations to York, Durham-Newcastle.

All three charters will use LS’s Mk.3 First Open stock. Seat prices are from £129. The inaugural August outing is already shown as ‘sold out’.
