ALI GRIEVE REMEMBERED

-

YOU published a tribute by Pip Dunn to Alistair Grieve in Issue 311, April 2022. I am writing as Alistair’s father to say thank you for those very warm words.

Pip says that as far as he knew Alistair was in good health and was shocked at his sudden death.

As I said at Alistair’s funeral (March 22), his death was due to a stroke caused by heart disease. There were no symptoms.

I shall always remember a Saturday morning phone call, a very noisy one. “Listen to this” came the cry and it was the sound of Class 20s hard at work on an excursion, with Alistair in the front carriage holding his phone out of the window. A similar sound said farewell to Alistair as the curtains closed.

I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended the funeral and to all those who posted the scores of goodwill messages on Facebook.

Alistair will always be in our memories.
