Small supplier focus: Lanarkshire Models & Supplies
IN the excitement of new model releases from both the established manufacturers and those gaining a foothold in the UK market, the small and specialist manufacturers that enrich the hobby are often overlooked. This has been exacerbated by the lack of model railway shows during the pandemic. The specialists use shows as the best way to reach out to customers and to market their products, so their absence has been less than helpful.
Lanarkshire Models & Supplies (LMS) is one such supplier of small detailing components, primarily for 4mm scale rolling stock including ‘Big Four’ and BR standard wagons alongside locomotives. It is also known for a very effective track cleaning kit designed to fit an LMS brake van or air braked wagons such as the POA and SSA (it can be adapted for BR 20t brake vans too). LMS also specialises in buffer stops from various railway companies including the BR/LMS standard design.
In a recent article, we highlighted the lack of the ABS/Four Most
Models 4mm scale cast metal wagon and components kits which were exceptionally useful for many modelling applications (we understand they were intended to be reintroduced by David J Parkins alongside the 7mm scale parts for which confirmation is required).
LMS goes a long way to filling this void with a comprehensive range of 4mm scale cast metal rolling stock
buffers together with various vacuum brake hose details and coupling hooks. Around 70 different types of buffer are available, including hydraulic and Oleo designs, perfect for upgrading Cambrian and Parkside Dundas kits as well as replacing the sometimes badly modelled buffers of some ready to run wagons. Not all of the products relate to D&E modelling. However, the range is pretty large and it is not difficult to run up a £30 or more order!
