GBRf ‘Shed’ named at Cambridge station

GB RAILFREIGH­T named Class 66 No. 66786 Cambridge University Railway Club at a ceremony at Cambridge station on June 18. The event marked the 111th anniversar­y of the club.

Founded in 1911 by student members as the Cambridge University branch of The Railway Club, the CURC is currently the second oldest railway club in the world. Club members engage in all aspects of the railway in Britain and around the world, and CURC members have a track record of going into thriving careers across the industry.

The nameplate on No. 66786 features the Eagle locomotive, which

is the only steam engine to be built by the Headly Brothers’ Eagle Foundry on Mill Road, Cambridge in 1849 for the Eastern Counties Railway.
