Next phase of T&W Metro depot completed

-

The second phase of the £70m project to rebuild the depot at Gosforth to effectively create a brand new facility that will house the 46 new trains for the Tyne & Wear Metro network has been completed, with three more new sections of line into the depot installed.

Phase three, which will see the demolition of more of the original 1923 building and installation of another three tracks, is expected to complete in October. Building work has been programmed to allow part of the fleet of existing Met-Cam units dating back to the 1980s to use Gosforth depot even while it is rebuilt. Other units are using a temporary depot at Howdon. The new Stadler units will eventually replace all of the older trains.
