AN unexpected visitor to Peak Rail for much of June was one of the Clayton CBD80 hybrids delivered to Sellafield last year, this being the

No. 2 machine (Works No. 4659/2). This had initially departed Cumbria at the beginning of May for attention at a site in Derby before moving on to Rowsley in the second week of June for testing following modifications. It was expected to leave the preserved line before the end of the month.

THE latest departure from the closed Elsecar Heritage Railway came on June 14. Hunslet 0-6-0DH No. 6950 of 1967, named Louise, and now in new ownership, was initially taken to the Darley Dale workshops of Andrew and Pete Briddon to await some contract repairs. Later the same day, Yorkshire Engine Company 0-4-0DE No. 2654 of 1957 departed from Rowsley, having been sold and destined for the Caledonian Railway, where it was unloaded the next day.

AN exchange of shunters at DB Cargo’s Stoke wagon works in midJune saw the departure of Thomas Hill 4wDH No. 264V of 1976 back to the Chasewater Railway, this being named Helen and once TOPSregistered as No. 01568. The loco was replaced by RSS-owned Clayton CD40 No. 4618/6 following attention at Wishaw.
