FIRST HORNBY MK.4 COACHES APPEAR
JUNE saw the first of a large collection of new
‘OO’ gauge BR Mk.4 coaches arrive from Hornby in the form of GNER stock (£44.95) finished with orange doors representing the livery after it was modified to reflect changes in regulation where passenger access doors had to be painted in a contrasting colour.
Initial impressions are of a model of the correct proportions and shape, with flush glazing and detailed interior. It would now be considered basic in design when compared to Hornby’s own steam-era stock and forthcoming models from other manufacturers; lacking interior lighting and other refined features.
Also released in June is Transport for Wales red and silver grey Class 67, No. 67014 (£193.99) which is the traction used on locomotive-hauled long distance TfW trains utilising Mk.4 stock. The model is based on the super detail version of the Class 67 rather than the former Lima model.
Further models of the detailed LMS 20t brake van have also appeared which will have value for D&E modelling. The LMS brown model (£24.49) will form the basis for detailing and refinishing while the blue model with markings for S&T Chester (£29.49) brings the model more up to date. Both are finely moulded with additional detailing parts supplied in the box. www.hornby.com
