DRS Open Day draws in the crowds
OVER 3500 people enjoyed the warm temperatures at DRS’s annual Open Day at its Gresty Lane Depot in Crewe on July 16, the first time the event has been able to run since 2019. Not only was there a bumper turnout, there was a huge generosity of spirit, with nearly £40,000 raised for charity. A good selection of 17 DRS locomotives were on display (see box), two of which were named on the day: 66422 as Max Joule after the late MD and co-founder of DRS and 66424 as Driver Paul Scrivens, in memory of a greatly missed DRS colleague. Several Class 37s were present, which are due to leave the operator in due course (see Power By The Hour, p24).
