■ HAULIER Reid Freight Services is now using Cockshute Yard, Stoke, for storage, and five shunters were in residence by early July. These included Rolls Royce Sentinel No. 10229 of 1965, previously at Ed Murray, Hartlepool, and former Round Oak machines Andrew Barclay No. 614 of 1977 and Thomas Hill No. 293V of 1980. In use at Tarmac’s Tallington works until a couple of months ago, Hunslet No. 9383 of 2012 (originally Thomas Hill No. 290V of 1980) was also present, as was GEC

No. 5430 of 1977, this carrying the cabside number of 261. However, the latter departed on July 16 and is believed to have gone to Daventry, where sister GEC loco No. 5425 has been at work since the spring. Carrying the same black and yellow livery, this has the painted number of 460.

■ WITH testing completed, Clayton CBD80 hybrid Sellafield No.2 (Works

No. 4659/2) departed Rowsley back to the nuclear reprocessing site on

June 20, being unloaded the next day. This in turn allowed sister loco No. 1 (4659/1) to be removed to Millenium Site Services, Derby, in order to undergo the same package of modifications.

■ ED MURRAY-owned and Rolls Roycebuilt Sentinel No. 10255 of 1966 enjoyed a rare moment in the spotlight on July 9, when it was used to haul BLS’s ‘The Lackenby Looper’ railtour within the confines of Lackenby steelworks, the black, yellow and white-liveried 0-6-0DH looking somewhat incongruous hauling the BR blue/grey Mk.2 ‘air-cons’ through the industrial surroundings.

■ AN exchange of Andrew Barclay 0-6-0DH shunters at Barrow Hill in July saw the stripped shell of No. 612 of 1976 removed to an unspecified scrapyard for final disposal on the 7th. Its place was taken six days later with the delivery of No. 613 of 1977 from storage at Hope Cement Works. In equally poor condition, this too is earmarked for final spares recovery before disposal.
