HELP FOR IRISH HERITAGE RAILWAYS
ON Saturday, August 20, 2022, Táilte Tours (www.tailtetours.com) ran its Premier Rose railtour to Kerry with Irish Rail/IÉ Class 201 locomotive No. 215 and a set of CAF Mk. 4 coaches, to raise funds for Irish railway heritage projects.
The dire plight of Irish railway preservation is the result of two years’ of Covid-19 restrictions, effectively putting some very important preservation projects in jeopardy and affecting other areas of the heritage scene which lost a great deal of income.
Irish Railway Models (IRM) donated €10 from each pack of the new
‘OO’ gauge CIÉ magnesite wagons
(see page M23) and Irish Rail/IÉ
ballast wagons sold in August to the Downpatrick and Co. Down Railway (www.downrail.co.uk).
Furthermore, the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland benefited from the proceeds from the special edition RPSI Mk.2 coach pack which has now sold out (www.steamtrainsireland.com).
By the time this issue goes to press, the wagon promotion will be concluded. However, the story does not end there and IRM urges modellers to support fundraising efforts by buying railtour or heritage railway tickets and making donations to keep Irish railway heritage projects alive. www.irishrailwaymodels.com
