ALTHOUGH these titles cover quite different parts of the UK network, they all provide an excellent overview of their respective areas, though over different time periods. Adam’s book includes images taken between 2013-2021, Neil covers the last 20 years up to the present day, while Andy takes a more historic view, focused on the 1980s, but bracketed between the steam era and the 1990s. A minor quibble with Adam’s title is that frustratingly many images are undated, something that might bother modellers in particular, who will be well aware that traction and livery variations can change within a year.

All three volumes follow the typical Amberley largely pictorial format, with two images to a page, accompanied by reasonably detailed captions.

Given that all three cover specific geographic areas, any kind of route map at the front of each book would be welcome, but none is provided. While Adam’s and Neil’s books cover large parts of the UK network, the relatively short West London Line produces a pleasingly wide range of traction and rolling stock. Each of these titles presents a good balance between locomotives and multiple units, and passenger and freight turns, with the odd departmental working thrown in.
