How will the plan support passengers and the economy?
The Peninsula Rail Task Force believes there are six key ways in which rail improvements can provide a boost both for rail passengers and for the local economy. They are:
A resilient railway safeguards businesses and communities.
It supports the delivery of strategic economic plans by unlocking housing development, broadening travel to work areas, creating sustainable travel links and aiding tourism.
Connectivity supports increased productivity, quality of life and access to education/skills.
A better railway relieves congestion on the roads, as well as providing environmental benefits.
Better connections between rural and urban areas in the region.
It opens more options for freight.
