The Forth Bridge in all its glory - Robert France presents a selection of pictures from his recent guided tour.
June 3 was a kinky warm summer's day, and I took full advantage of the conditions. Having travelled up from Lancaster, I arrived at 0730 with my nephew George, to begin the tour at 0930. After meeting up with Craig Bowman, my guide from Network Rail, the first part of the tour was on the top of the north cantilever, where it was particularly interesting to see the construction of the new road bridge. The next stop was tract level where the Maze of steel and mass of rivets (6.5 million of them) is more noticeable. The final part of the tour was the south piers, where we were shown the bearings on which the bridge is mounted. I spent the rest of the day searching out vanous different angles to photograph this world-famous and immediately recognisable structure.
