HS2 to Sheffield
HS2 Ltd Chairman Sir David Higgins recommends ‘classic compatible’ trains into Sheffield Midland station.
“I think the case for HS2 is even more important now than it was before the referendum,” HS2 Chairman Sir David Higgins told RAIL, responding to suggestions that the HS2 project is under threat from Brexit and the political uncertainty ( RAIL 804).
“I think the most important thing is, we have two very sound independent reviews of the project that are very recent. And the other point is just to reinforce the benefits that HS2 will bring in a time of great uncertainty and change to the country. The whole reason for doing HS2 is to rebalance the economy and make skills more accessible in the North, to make it more attractive to outside investment.”
Higgins said that the project should still be on track for Royal Assent by the end of the year.
