GWR hires ‘67’ for ‘Weymouth Wizard’

Rail (UK) - - News - GLEN BATTEN.

June 3 presented a resource challenge for Great Western Railway, as all available High Speed Train and diesel multiple units were needed for the large numbers of passengers heading to Cardiff for the Juventus vs Real Madrid Champions League final that evening. This meant GWR needed to hire a Class 67 and rake of stock from DB Cargo to cover its ‘Weymouth Wizard’ train (usually an HST). The extra Mk 2s were added as the Dorset town was hosting a Folk Festival that weekend. The ‘67’ emerges from a heavy shower at Chetnole on the single-line section between Dorchester West and Yeovil Pen Mill, with the 1728 Weymouth-Bristol Temple Meads. It was later used to operate an additional Cardiff CentralLondon Paddington train.
