Respondents support new London stations
Two new stations in London have moved a step closer to being built, after Transport for London (TfL) published consultation results showing strong support for the facilities.
Around 1,000 people responded to a consultation on plans for new stations at Hythe Road and Old Oak Common. They are designed to serve London Overground, with additional connections to HS2 and the Elizabeth Line (Crossrail). Replies to individual stations showed 92% support for Old Oak Common and 86% for Hythe Road.
TfL said the new stations would help regeneration of the Old Oak and Park Royal area, which is one of the capital’s principal Opportunity Areas with the potential for 25,500 new homes and 65,000 jobs. It said improved transport could bring 250,000 more people and 150,000 extra jobs within an hour of Old Oak.
Concern was raised that the distance between the Elizabeth Line, HS2 and the new stations was too great, and that the new stations could disturb local residents. TfL said these would be considered as plans are developed. A dedicated pedestrian bridge between Old Oak Common and Victoria Road was supported by 88%.
Should the plans be taken forward, then powers must be secured via a Transport & Works Act Order (TWAO). TfL said more consultation would be carried out before a TWAO submission.
