Sal­fords: The open­ing in Fe­bru­ary of the £1.5 mil­lion foot­bridge over the four-track Brighton Main Line has elim­i­nated what was reck­oned to be the UK’s busiest level cross­ing, with over 760 trains each week­day.

Sal­is­bury: Pro­pos­als to re­de­velop the derelict site of the for­mer steam de­pot to the west of the sta­tion ap­pear to have come to noth­ing, be­cause of the high level of ground con­tam­i­na­tion. It is owned and man­aged by Wilt­shire Coun­cil.

Wel­bourne: Hamp­shire County Coun­cil and Net­work Rail agree that a new sta­tion on the Fare­ham- Eastleigh line might be vi­able, de­spite its £ 80 mil­lion es­ti­mated cost. It would serve a 6,000home town­ship.

Wim­ble­don: The Rail Ac­ci­dent In­ves­ti­ga­tion Branch in­quiry into the slow- speed de­rail­ment of a heav­i­ly­loaded South West Trains elec­tric mul­ti­ple unit at the sta­tion on Novem­ber 6 2017 has crit­i­cised the con­fu­sion be­tween Net­work Rail and Lon­don Un­der­ground over own­er­ship of the track, which had not been main­tained for many years.
