ScotRail ‘344s’ split at Uphall
ScotRail is investigating why a pair of Class 334 electric multiple units split apart when leaving Uphall station in the early evening of November 26, leaving passengers on the rear three-car unit (334009) stranded while the front one (334035) continued west.
Spokesman John Beaton said the investigation was in its early stages, but had not involved grounding the rest of the fleet for checks. Should a train split, then brakes should apply automatically on both portions. Beaton added the pair of units had been coupled for some time.
The service was the 1720 Edinburgh-Helensburgh on its usual route via Bathgate. ScotRail sent a driver to Uphall to take the rear unit to Bathgate, where it was taken out of service.
