Matlock-Derby line closure warning

Network Rail has provided advance notice of a week of service changes between Matlock and Derby, with replacement buses running between February 9-17.

The line will be shut to allow Network Rail to renew Ambergate Junction, the point where the Matlock branch line leaves the Midland Main Line.

The work will allow trains to run faster than at present, and is part of a wider project to increase speeds on the Midland Main Line.

“We appreciate that closing the line between Derby and Matlock for a week will be inconvenient for passengers,” said local Route Managing Director Rob McIntosh.

“These vital improvements at Ambergate will increase the line speed and bring a more robust timetable for passengers in the years to come.”
