DB Cargo delivers freight tracking service to customers’ mobiles

-

DB Cargo has launched a rail freight tracking service which it says will enable customers to better plan their operations.

The web-based portal allows customers to see the number and type of wagons on their service, as well as exactly what progress the locomotive is making at any given time. It can also be accessed through mobile devices.

DB said it worked with its customers to develop the system, and has been trialling it since the start of this year. The operator is planning further investments to add new features in the coming months.

“We run services 24 hours a day, so the portal has already given us greater visibility when dealing with customer queries out of normal business hours,” said Samuel Roberts, commercial manager at Mendip Rail, one of the companies involved in the trial.

DB Cargo Head of Sales Roger Neary added: “This is a very exciting new initiative that will set us aside from our competitors. It has been designed by customers, for customers, and will give them much greater visibility of the services that DB Cargo UK operates for them.

“It is a great example of collaboration, with the research and development process giving us a richer insight into what’s important to our customers.”
