Joseph deputed to study the role of devolved authorities in stations
Former Campaign for Better Transport Chief Executive Stephen Joseph is to investigate the role of devolved authorities in rail stations.
In a forthcoming report for the Urban Transport Group, Joseph will examine large-scale regeneration projects such as that at Dundee station, as well as the transformation of existing stations into transport hubs and for community use.
He will take a case-bycase approach, showing how devolved authorities have made improvements ranging from staffing and security, accessibility, integration with other transport modes, and stations’ environmental sustainability. The report is due to be published next year.
“Rail stations are more than just access points for trains - they are hubs and gateways for communities, and are often key features in their cities, towns and villages,” he said.
“Devolution of rail services to local authorities and devolved administrations has allowed them to make huge improvements to the stations in those services.
“I hope that through this report, I’ll be able to showcase these achievements and the potential for more stations to become centres for development and attractive places for people and passengers.”
