Safety award for Metrolink sta­tions

Ten of Manch­ester Metrolink’s sta­tions have re­ceived praise for their high lev­els of safety, af­ter in­spec­tion by a spe­cial­ist team.

The stops - Ex­change Quay, Sal­ford Quays, An­chor­age, Har­bour City, Me­di­aCi­tyUK, Old Traf­ford, Deans­gate-Castle­field, Eti­had Cam­pus, Bag­u­ley and Manch­ester Air­port - have re­ceived the Safer Tram Stop Award fol­low­ing as­sess­ment.

The aim of the awards, which are given by na­tional polic­ing project Se­cured by De­sign, is to pre­vent crime and the fear of crime, and to pro­vide guid­ance to op­er­a­tors on how to cre­ate and main­tain safe en­vi­ron­ments. The stops are sub­ject to as­sess­ment by Crime Pre­ven­tion Of­fi­cers from Greater Manch­ester Po­lice, and the ac­cred­i­ta­tion is ini­tially awarded for one year be­fore re­assess­ment is re­quired.

Trans­port for Greater Manch­ester said it has now iden­ti­fied a fur­ther 12 stops to be nom­i­nated for in­spec­tion.

“It is im­por­tant that ev­ery mem­ber of our com­mu­nity feels safe to travel on pub­lic trans­port with­out feel­ing in­tim­i­dated or un­duly con­cerned by the be­hav­iour of oth­ers,” said TfGM Head of Metrolink Danny Vaughan.
