Felixstowe enhancement progresses
Network Rail has installed sleepers and ballast, ahead of the installation of new track on the Felixstowe branch.
NR is installing 0.8 miles of track between Trimley and the level crossing at Gun Lane, which will allow an extra ten freight trains to run to and from the port at Felixstowe each day while also improving passenger train reliability.
“We’re now a matter of months from being able to realise the benefits of the Felixstowe capacity enhancement scheme,” said Guy Bates, head of freight development at Network Rail.
“This scheme is a critical step in developing rail capacity between the UK’s number one port and the Midlands and the North.”
