GWR Class 387 de­rails on traps

Great West­ern Rail­way 387146 de­railed on trap points near Han­well early on Novem­ber 27, caus­ing some de­lays and can­cel­la­tions to stop­ping ser­vices to­wards Padding­ton in the morn­ing peak with the Up re­lief line closed in the im­me­di­ate af­ter­math of the ac­ci­dent. GWR spokesman Dan Panes said that pass­ing a sig­nal at dan­ger was the likely rea­son for the de­rail­ment. The train was run­ning empty to Read­ing. Trap points are de­signed to de­rail trains in these cir­cum­stances, to pre­vent them reach­ing run­ning lines.
