GWR Class 387 derails on traps
Great Western Railway 387146 derailed on trap points near Hanwell early on November 27, causing some delays and cancellations to stopping services towards Paddington in the morning peak with the Up relief line closed in the immediate aftermath of the accident. GWR spokesman Dan Panes said that passing a signal at danger was the likely reason for the derailment. The train was running empty to Reading. Trap points are designed to derail trains in these circumstances, to prevent them reaching running lines.
