Track upgrade at Market Harborough

Network Rail is upgrading the Midland Main Line as part of its Market Harborough Line Speed Improvement Project.

Work includes changes to the track bed to improve train speed, and straightening the track. NR is also strengthening Rockingham Road bridge in Market Harborough, so that it can carry more ballast to support the operation of faster trains.

NR is also working on Odell Viaduct, raising the structure to allow for the safe clearance of overhead line equipment in anticipation of electrification of the line between London to Kettering and Corby via Bedford.
