RAIL’s verdict: The High Speed 2 project has its fair share of detractors, including (it seems) the grassroots campaign group Taxpayers Alliance.

Needless to say, the £104 billion figure quoted by the TPA in this graphic is not recognised by many in the rail industry as the final cost of HS2 - including HS2 Ltd, which stands firmly by its calculation of £56bn (see Network News, pages 8-9).
