RDG hails GPS technology trial

-

The Rail Delivery Group says Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation and camera recognition technology that is due to be tested in service this year will help to keep passengers better informed about their journeys.

Chiltern, Grand Central, London North Eastern Railway and parts of Northern and ScotRail will use GPS to provide detailed information on a train’s location. It is hoped this will provide more reliable journey information to passengers, and reduce the number of trains predicted as arriving on time and then subsequently showing as delayed.

Meanwhile, Arriva Rail London is piloting camera recognition technology which it hopes will provide better information on the number and order of carriages on trains and when they need to be cleaned.
