More operators to run NR IM trains
Network Rail has increased the number of operators running its Infrastructure Monitoring trains.
Colas Rail currently operates the services, in a contract lasting until 2020. GB Railfreight also operates some in the South East.
NR confirmed on December 18 that it has also awarded contracts to DB Cargo and Direct Rail Services. A spokesman told RAIL: “This will ensure that the evergrowing Infrastructure Monitoring service has the capability to supply the asset data required to run the network safely.”
The trains operate across the UK, and RAIL understands that operations will be split regionally. Colas has already sold assets since the deal was confirmed, disposing of redundant locomotives.
